Peanut honey oaty things

5 Feb

Yesterday I tried Hugh’s recipe. He called for a 20x20cm tin, I used a muffin case instead. I think I can say they are pretty, pretty, pretty good. A little moorish which is dangerous, and the amount of sugar that went in was a little frightening. I think if I do them again, I’ll play with the ingredients a bit, and reduce the sugar – the honey that goes in should be enough. I added dates as my the dried fruit element, with a few mixed seeds.

I was up at 7 to eat my porridge, then back to bed for a couple of hours before my long run. I ate one of these just before I set off – perfect.

I’m trying to get in the habit of completing my long run routine in the same time frame as I will on marathon day. I’m not sure I’ll be going back to bed after breakfast though….

Whenever my training steps up, I inevitably get a lot hungrier, and  pretty much think about what will pass my lips next every 5mins. I have a pretty sweet tooth at the best of times, so I’m always craving something naughty.

I occasionally attempt some home baking, and when I do I try to search out a ‘healthy’ flapjack or a ‘marathon specific energy boosting’ muffin. We recently invested in Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Vegetable book, and I like the sound of the below. An experiment for the weekend I think. Whether it falls into the healthy category I’m not sure, but I like Hugh, he seems wholesome, so surely his recipes are too…

Recipe here if anyone want to experiment too.
